The Charles Shelton Foundation is a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping Black African American students studying Veterinary Medicine or Technology afford the costs of higher education. 

Since 2012, the Charles Shelton Foundation has been providing scholarships to high school graduates and college students pursuing a higher education degree in Veterinary Medicine and Technology.

Eligibility: To be eligible, applicants must;

  • have a minimum 3.0 GPA and provide an official copy of your transcript in a sealed envelope
  • be Black African-American graduating HS senior, current college student or returning college student.
  • be a legal U.S. resident
  • be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia
  • Complete the Veterinary Scholarship Form
  • Provide two professional references from Professors that speak directly to your experience in Veterinary Medicine or Technology. One letter should be from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) professor.  
  • Provide proof of full-time enrollment in a college or university

      • Two professional references that speak to your experience in veterinary medicine. One must be from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professor. 
      • Proof of full-time enrollment in a college or university.
      • A minimum of 500-750 words answering the following question:
        • Laboratory animal medicine and research are conducted to advance the field of human and veterinary medicine. Discuss the pros and cons of administering treatments to advance medical science but may cause pain or discomfort to research animals. 
    • Post-Secondary Requirements
      • Two professional references that speak to your experience in veterinary medicine. One must be from your current veterinary college. 
      • Proof of full-time enrollment in an accredited veterinary college. 
      • 1500 words 
      • A minimum of 1500 answering the following question:
        • Laboratory animal medicine and research are conducted to advance the field of human and veterinary medicine. Discuss the pros and cons of administering treatments to advance medical science but may cause pain or discomfort to research animals? 
  • Resume (include achievements, honors, community service and school involvement).
  • Application Deadline: April 15th 2021
